One Room Challenge

We’re at the halfway point of the One Room Challenge!

What’s the One Room Challenge (ORC)? From now until the big reveal on November 18, I’m going to be working on fully transforming the living room (and since it opens into the kitchen, dining room, stairwell, and upstairs landing–those, too!). I’ll be posting weekly updates so you can see my progress.

If you haven’t been following along, check out Weeks 1&2 and Week 3.

So, what’s been going on this week?

Kitchen Complete

After much deliberations and a failed installation initial attempt at one of our initial backsplash tiles (it was so fragile, it crumbled in your fingers), we finally finished the kitchen!

Kitchen is refresh complete! Cabinet color, hardware and backsplash are ready for their close-ups.

That brown sepia mirrored tile backsplash! Does that fit our modern moody vintage theme or what?

Welcome to Week 3 of the One Room Challenge. How have we been progressing for our Moody Modern Vintage Living Room? Let’s take a look:

Light and Dark Wall Paint

This week has been all about paint. After lots of paint swatches last week , we finally chose a dark paint color: Sherwin Williams Domino. It’s a warm black color that I think achieves that moody darkness without feeling cold.

To contrast the dark paint color, we also chose Sherwin Williams Natural Tan, which feels like a very neutral beige without reading as yellow.

To put this contrast to work, we painted the stairwell railing in SW Domino as well to get a pop of dark against the light backdrop of the stairwell walls.

We also painted outside the lines a bit-there’s more!

I’m so excited to share that I will be a guest participant in this Fall 2021 season of the One Room Challenge!

What does that mean? It means that I’m choosing a room to fully transform over the course of the next 7 weeks, concluding in a big reveal this November 18th! But don’t worry, I of course won’t keep you in the dark until then. I’ll be sharing plenty of updates along the way.

Meet the Room

For this challenge, we’ll be focusing on the Living Room, which currently looks like this:
